Ship "Index".
23). Victorian & pre WW1 Naval Ships.
Please note :- This section, and
"Index 4" - Battleships Cruisers etc., have now been altered in an attempt to create a clearer demarcation point
between ships from the Victorian and Edwardian era, and those of WW1 and later.
I hope this has also made each section more manageable and easier to view.
The ships shown in this section of my website are a bit of a "Hodge Podge".
Many
were designed between 1870 to 1890, a time of massive technological advance.
Even so, they were very soon overshadowed by the development of "High Pressure, Oil fired Boilers, and Steam Turbine" engined ships.
-The "Dreadnoughts" had arrived !!.-
And so there are also many more "modern" ships here, designed and built between the early 1900's up to just before WW1,
and some of them even lasted into WW11.
However, many of these older, and by now decidedly obsolete, ships served on into WW1, an example being "HMS Amphion".
This was the ship my Grandfather was killed on during the 2nd day of WW1.
